Albannach

Read more about Albannach!
Scottish to the bones, Albannach is all about translating their homecountry’s ancient and unique culture through their music. The great thing about Albannach is that they realize that most authentic Scottish folk music experience is not only about the sounds, but it is a true matter of attitude and, to put it in the right terms…”folklore”. The performance, in this particular context, is as important as the attitude of the performers, and Albannach seems to understand this premises really well...

Comment:  About thirty years ago I went on a very long, iomramh, wandering about the west of Scotland from Oban up to Ullapool and then Island hopping ending up in Barra, for a week. On my arrival on the north side of Barra, by local boat, I was picked up by a local, I was thumbing, and I asked him was there anything on. He said that there was a ceilí in benbecula, he suggested that I went down to the local hotel in Castletown at about eight, and I would get there. So I pitched my tent had something to eat and went to the pub.

And so began one of the best nights of my life.

By the way I am looking at Google maps, and the name on the island is Vatersay, but the name I remember is benbecula, am I wrong. We were dropped off by boat somewhere near Uidh, and I remember singing The Rose of Tralee.

Also one person that I met on Barry I have never forgotten his name. He was Calum Mc Kin.nion from Fortwilliam, but his family were originally from Barra. He will remember our lack of luck with the two Sweeds.

So tell him the mad Irish fellow was asking for him. Also tell him that the old knowledge ha scome back to Ireland. He will understand what I mean!
